MEDWAY COUNCIL

Medway Council is a unitary authority in Kent responsible for providing services, including education and social services in Rochester, Strood, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham, the nearby rural areas and the Hoo Peninsula. Rochester Castle is managed by Medway Council and is also under guardianship of English Heritage.

CALVADOS TOURISM

Calvados Tourism promotes the Calvados Region in Normandy, France and has developed a coherent, homogeneous and comprehensible William the Conqueror experience for tourists. This project is called “La Fabuleuse Epopée" (The Epic Adventure) and consists of sightposting, leaflet, website and video. The major sites are located in Bayeux, Caen and Falaise.

CALVADOS COUNCIL

The Conseil Général du Calvados is a local authority in Normandy, France that is particularly responsible for social services, roads, secondary schools, and school transport. In addition, the Conseil Général manages non-essential services in many fields such as tourism and culture. In partnership with Calvados Tourism they have set up “La Fabuleuse Epopée” (The Epic Adventure) sightposting project.

CITY OF CAEN, NORMANDY MUSEUM

The Museum of Normandy is a cultural service of the town of Caen (France, Lower Normandy). It displays history, archaeology and ethnography collections of Normandy, with a particular interest on areas within the Norman world, from Northern Europe to the Mediterranean, through a rich programme of temporary exhibitions. The Museum of Normandy is located within the castle walls which were founded in Caen by William the Conqueror, and contributes to the development of this major historical site in the history of Normandy.

CASTLE OF WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR

Château Guillaume-le-Conquérant is a municipal service of the Town of Falaise. Its staff oversee all aspects of management : admissions, tours, advertising, communication, exhibitions, events, scenography and education. Each aspect serves this monument which witnessed the birth of the most famous Norman duke, William the Conqueror. Today, it features three keeps and a complete set of castle walls, for the enjoyment of its visitors.

BAYEUX TAPESTRY MUSEUM

Installed in the old Grand Seminary in 1983, the Bayeux Tapestry Museum welcomes around 400,000 visitors each year, most of which are English. The municipal museum has a permanent staff of eighteen: a small, energetic group, joined by many students in the summer.

COLCHESTER BOROUGH COUNCIL

Colchester Castle is managed by Colchester and Ipswich Museum Service who are responsible for another five museums and galleries in the towns of Colchester and Ipswich. The Castle displays a Designated collection of archaeology that tells the story of Colchester, Britain’s oldest recorded town, from earliest times to the Siege of Colchester in 1648 during the English Civil War.

HASTINGS BOROUGH COUNCIL

Hastings is of course synonymous with the famous battle in 1066, the most famous date in English history. Hastings Borough Council, the owners of Hastings Castle, are proud of their link with the Norman Conquest, and are pleased to be partners in this important project.

NORFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL

Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery is managed by Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service and governed by Norfolk County Council. NMAS comprises ten museums, one collections study centre and countywide services. Norwich Castle houses Designated collections of Archaeology, Fine Art, Decorative Art and Natural History. Displays within the 900 year old Norman Keep tell the story of the Royal Palace and County Gaol as well as Norwich’s civic and pageant history.
