WHY IS IT IMPORTANT
One of the finest Norman churches in Essex.
DID YOU KNOW?
The Norman shaft of the cross in the churchyard was used for many years to support the cellar of a local inn.

The church of St Nicholas at Castle Hedingham dates back to 1180.  Particularly notable are the surviving Norman nave arcades and a round window in the form of a wheel with eight spokes in the east wall of the chancel.  This is one of the finest Norman churches in Essex.
